Development of a Clinical Project Management Course

CPM module for post-graduate studies in Pharmaceutical Medicine at the University of Basel

Project description:

ProjectPharm was approached by ECPM regarding a 6-day course in clinical programme and project management. ECPM is a training centre in pharmaceutical medicine, offering undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate level courses at the University of Basel.

ProjectPharm’s mission:

Develop a programme and project management course aligned with the state-of-the-art developments and trends in project management for pharmaceutical development programmes in general and clinical trials in particular, and lecture the course 1-2 times per year.

ProjectPharm’s approach:

As a basis for the course we chose an internationally recognised project management standard, PMBoK©, which is copyrighted by the Project Management Institute. The content of PMBoK was adapted as much as possible to the pharmaceutical industry environment, and is delivered along a case study, with numerous examples and exercises, for which practical tools and templates were created. Furthermore, we chose a textbook and provide several literature references. The course is updated continually, as new trends emerge or new versions of PMBoK are released.

The course is held in two sessions, each of three days, once or twice a year
